Bio

Jacoby Mitchell joins Southwestern Christian College bringing nearly a decade of coaching experience and a strong background in player development, recruiting operations, and game preparation. Most recently he served as a Graduate Assistant with the Sam Houston State Bearkats while completing a Master’s in Sports Management, working extensively in scouting, recruiting coordination, and individual skill development.

At Sam Houston State Mitchell helped mentor multiple award‑winning student‑athletes, contributing to Conference USA honors including Sixth Man of the Year, All‑Freshman Team, Defensive Player of the Year, and All‑Conference selections. He was also part of the staff during the program’s historic season that produced its first NIT berth and a second‑place finish in Conference USA.

Prior to the collegiate ranks, Mitchell was Head Boys Basketball Coach at Trinity High School, overseeing the 7–12 program and fostering a culture of accountability, skill development, and leadership. Under his guidance several players advanced to the collegiate level. He also coached at John Paul II High School and Alcuin School, contributing to playoff and state‑tournament success. Additionally, Mitchell will serve as Southwestern Christian College’s first‑ever Head Coach for the Cross Country program, where he’ll apply his coaching experience to launch and build the team.

A native of Trinity, Texas, Mitchell earned a B.S. in Liberal Arts Communication from Paul Quinn College. He is passionate about mentoring student‑athletes, building winning cultures, and helping players reach their potential on and off the court.
